ABSTRACT

Serological evidences of WNV have been reported in different regions of Brazil from equine and human but the virus had never been isolated in the country. Here we report the first isolation of WNV in Brazil from horse with neurologic disease. The virus caused histopathologic alterations in the horse’s cerebral tissue and the immunohistochemistry showed WNV antigens in this tissue. The strain isolated was sequenced and included in the lineage 1, clade 1a with other American strains.
