Fast Track

Since the beginning of the Zika Epidemics in Brazil, the Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (MIOC) launched the Fast Track system, in alignment with the call for data sharing in public health emergencies made by the WHO. MIOC has thus published papers related to the Zika epidemics and expanded the section as to include also articles related to Chikungunya, Yellow Fever and Ebola. The immediate response and adherence of the scientific community to this call strengthens the idea that open science is becoming part of the publication pathway and crucial for the fast data sharing amongst the researchers and results are made fully available for decision-makers.

We are facing the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2" (SARS-CoV-2). MIOC includes now COVID-19 in the Fast Track section.
MIOC is supported by Fiocruz, which is also a petitioner of the 2016 joint statement relating to the sharing of data of public health emergencies.

All research manuscripts concerning infection caused by yellow fever, chikungunya, Zika, Ebola and SARS-CoV-2 viruses submitted to MIOC will be evaluated by an Editor and those considered relevant will be assigned a digital object identifier and posted online in the “Fast Track” section of the Web-site within 24 hours. At the same time, manuscripts will be evaluated by peer review. Data in these manuscripts will thus be attributed to the authors while being freely available for reader scrutiny and unrestricted use, distribution and reproduction provided that the original work is properly cited as indicated by the Creative Commons Attribution license (CC BY). The period of open data within the Fast Track will be mentioned in the final publication in papers accepted after peer review. In case of rejection after peer review, authors are free to seek publication elsewhere. A notice that the manuscript was not accepted will be placed on the Fast Track section website and the manuscript will only be available through the authors.
Manuscripts can be submitted via the MIOC website memorias.ioc.fiocruz.br

Please be advised that the assigned DOI numbers for each manuscript are preliminary records not yet registered in Crossref. If the manuscript is accepted for publication by MIOC, the DOI number will be processed by SciELO in Crossrefon publication.
